What This Service Covers

Paint correction and polishing is a controlled machine process available in Asheville and WNC that reduces or removes swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation, and haze from a vehicle's clear coat to restore reflectivity and depth. Every job starts with an inspection and test spot to match pad, polish, and technique to your paint system. The goal is meaningful improvement while preserving the finish; some deeper defects may remain.

When You Might Need It

You may need correction when sunlight reveals circular swirl patterns, when dark paint looks cloudy rather than glossy, or when prior washing has left micro-marring and holograms. It is also commonly scheduled before applying longer-term paint protection, before photo shoots and resale, or after years of automatic car wash use that gradually dulls the finish.

Why It Is Worth Doing

Reducing visible defects helps paint reflect light more evenly for a sharper, richer appearance. If you plan to add ceramic coating, correction improves the finish you will protect, and the final surface preparation gets it ready for application. We’ll discuss the improvement your paint can reasonably achieve.

Finish with ceramic coating

Correction improves the paint’s appearance. Ceramic coating adds a protective layer that complements the gloss and makes regular washing easier. A coating does not remove existing swirls, so preparation comes first.

For sedans, correction + coating packages start at $1,000 with single-step correction or $1,400 with two-step correction. SUV packages start at $1,400 and $1,800 respectively. These are coating package prices; standalone correction is quoted separately.

Our Process

  1. Inspect and plan: Review the paint, existing protection, and your goals, then perform a test spot.
  2. Wash and decontaminate: Remove grime and bonded contamination, using chemical treatment and clay as needed.
  3. Correct and refine: Choose a single polishing stage or a correction stage followed by finishing polish, according to the paint’s needs.
  4. Prepare and protect: Finish with the agreed protection, including ceramic coating when selected, and explain care.

Common Questions

Does paint correction remove every scratch?

No. It can reduce many swirls and lighter defects. Deep scratches, damaged clear coat, or defects that cannot safely be polished may need touch-up or body shop repair. We’ll review realistic results before work starts.

How do I choose single-step or two-step correction?

Single-step polishing is often suitable for gloss refinement and lighter wash marks. Two-step correction adds a correction stage before finishing polish for paint that needs more work. An inspection and test spot guide the recommendation.

Is ceramic coating included?

Standalone correction is quoted separately. Our ceramic coating packages include correction and coating together. Use the ceramic quote quiz to explore that option.

How long does paint correction take?

Vehicle size, condition, and the correction level determine the time needed. Coating application and curing add their own requirements. I’ll confirm the timing and suitable workspace with your quote.
